The disadvantage with Shopify is that you may need to get 3rd party apps for some of the features you may need.  , secondly, you can use the Shopify payment, but if you use third-party payment gateway’s, you will have to pay a fee.

Pricing

Before opting for an e-commerce platform, it is crucial that you consider how much it will cost you in the long run.  Both Bigcommerce and Shopify have plans that you can use for your business.  There are, however, some points you should note.

• Plans

The Shopify basic plan starts at $29 per month, with the most expensive, advanced Shopify that comes in at $299.  Bigcommerce begins at the same basic rate but is slightly cheaper on the most sophisticated; which comes in at 249.95 dollars.

With Bigcommerce, you also have the option of getting a custom plan if you prefer; an option that is not available on Shopify. Pay close consideration to what the different plans have.  You may realize that in Bigcommerce, you can get abandoned cart recovery on the plus plan, while in Shopify it exists in the basic.

Both Shopify and Bigcommerce have gift cards, but in the former, they come in the Shopify plan, while in Bigcommerce, you will get it in the Standard plan.

• Transaction fees

Shopify will charge you a transaction fee if you do not use Shopify payments, which only exists in 11 countries.  If you are outside the coverage area, you will pay a fee ranging from 0.5% to 2%.  Bigcommerce, on the other hand, will not charge you a transaction fee, but you cannot make more than a certain number of sales per plan. It, therefore, forces you to upgrade if you want more flexibility.
